I have been spending my last 2 weeks preparing a wedding ceremony for two delightful people who are Doctor Who fans. It has been so much fun to dig through the various internet sites to find quotes and stories to add to the program.
Not being a Doctor Who fan I was so surprised to find so many witty and wonderful things about the program. Where have I been all these years that I didn't even have a clue about its humour and its tongue in cheek commentary on present events and history? I mean, it's been around since 1963 (and so have I, sadly). So, one would think that it would have at least crossed my path at some point. I did live in a household with a science fiction crazed brother, so I have to admit to watching shows such as The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, Lost In Space, My Favourite Martian and even The Thunderbirds. But never Doctor Who.
Well, that was a crying shame. In the time I have spent doing my research I have fallen in love with the whole shebang. Once this wedding is over I shall set about to watch it - from the beginning. I know it will be a chore getting all of the episodes, but I am definitely up to the task. It will be my personal challenge (not unlike doing the plank for more than 60 seconds) and I welcome it. So stay tuned.
